Conventional Products – Cutting Edge Technology |

Konarka Power Plastic is a photovoltaic material that captures both indoor and outdoor light and converts it into direct current (DC) electrical energy. This energy can be used immediately, stored for later use, or converted to other forms. Power Plastic can be applied to a limitless number of potential applications – from microelectronics to portable power, remote power and building-integrated applications. Konarka does not currently create consumer products; rather we make the material that others integrate into the products they make. In addition to our ongoing R&D activities, Konarka manufactures and sells both standard and custom Power Plastic panels to a wide variety of business development partners - innovative product developers who are taking advantage of Power Plastic’s light weight, flexibility and versatility to turn everyday objects into energy sources. Microelectronics – Power Plastic converts light to energy anywhere – whether that’s from the sun or from artificial light sources. Having low light sensitivity, Power Plastic a perfect resource for powering sensors, smart cards, and other low power indoor applications. Portable Power – Power Plastic is light enough to travel with you delivering energy independence never before possible. It is currently being integrated into a number of solar products including lanterns, backpacks, briefcases, messenger bags and more. Whatever the occasion – in the board room or on the mountaintop, Konarka Power Plastic is giving consumers the freedom to access power wherever they are. Remote Power – By the pool, on the golf course, or at the construction site, Power Plastic delivers power to the places you are. It’s lightweight enough to be hosted by conventional products such as café umbrellas, and temporary structures, and powerful enough to deliver the energy you demand. Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) – Another exciting application of Power Plastic is under development by Konarka and Arch Aluminum & Glass. Transparent and opaque Power Plastic is being tested as an integral component to windows and curtain walls. Able to work off-angle, Power Plastic could soon enable buildings to generate their own power. |
