Konarka Technologies Named as Nominee for the 2003 World Technology Awards

World Technology Network Nominates Konarka for Award in Energy Category

London, San Francisco — June 24, 2003 — The World Technology Network (WTN) announced today that Konarka Technologies, Inc., the leading developer of polymer photovoltaic products, has been selected as a nominee for this year’s World Technology Awards in the category of Energy. Konarka leverages nanotechnology and conducting polymers to provide a source of renewable power in a variety of form factors for commercial, industrial, government and consumer applications. The award will be presented in association with NASDAQ, Accenture, TIME magazine, Dupont Textiles and Interiors, Technology Review magazine, Science magazine and Genencor International. Konarka’s technology converts sunlight as well as indoor, artificial light into direct current electrical power. The company uses unique, proprietary low-temperature production methods to put the photovoltaic cells onto flexible, lightweight plastics.

"The World Technology Awards program was created to recognize truly extraordinary innovation on a global scale, the sort of work that could be described as creating our collective future and changing our world. Konarka’s contribution in the field of Energy has been outstanding, and the nomination is just an acknowledgement of that fact," said James P. Clark, Founder and Chairman of the World Technology Network.

"Now that Konarka has won several prestigious awards, we are delighted to receive this nomination from some of the most prominent thought leaders in the field of Energy as a validation of our technology," said Dr. Bill Beckenbaugh, President and Chief Executive Officer, Konarka Technologies, Inc.

Nominees for the 2003 World Technology Awards were identified based on an intensive, global process in which current WTN members (primarily winners and finalists of previous Awards cycles) made their nominations based on who they think are most innovative and impactful, within their particular field. Winners will be announced on June 25, 2003, in San Francisco, at the World Technology Awards gala ceremony at the conclusion of the two-day World Technology Summit. The World Technology Awards recognize individuals and corporations from twenty technology-related sectors selected by their peers as being the most innovative and doing work that holds the promise to have the greatest long-term significance.
