Konarka recognized for outstanding contributions to Massachusetts economy

Lowell, Mass. – November 21, 2006 – Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in developing and commercializing PowerPlastic® that converts light to energy, today announced the company was honored with the Third Annual Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Award from the Massachusetts Alliance for Economics Development (MAED). Companies from across the Commonwealth were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Massachusetts economy, and Konarka was selected as the winner of the "emerging companies" category for northeastern Massachusetts.

Susan Houston, MAED's executive director, commented, "This annual event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate economic achievements across the diverse regions of Massachusetts and to recognize the joint efforts of the public and private sector to retain and create jobs across industry sectors."

Honored companies fall into two categories – established, which includes companies founded prior to 2001, and emerging, which includes companies founded after January 1, 2001 from five regions of the state (Central Massachusetts, Greater Boston, Northeastern Massachusetts, Southeastern Massachusetts and Western Massachusetts). Companies were selected based on their job and facility expansion since January 1, 2005 as well as other factors including community involvement. The panel of judges for the award included Robert Culver, president and CEO of MassDevelopment; Michael DiGiano, executive vice president of NAI Hunneman Commercial; Cheryl LaFleur, executive vice president and chief operating officer, National Grid; Kevin Quinn, president of Dacon Corporation; and Girard Sargent, senior vice president of Citizens Bank.

Howard Berke, chairman and CEO of Konarka, commented, "We are delighted to be recognized by MAED as an emerging organization that positively impacts the economy of Massachusetts."

Berke will be receiving the award at the annual event on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at the Seaport Hotel in Boston.
