Konarka Expands Industry and Science Expertise With Two New Advisors

Lowell, Mass. – December 7, 2004 – Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in developing and manufacturing power plastics that convert light to energy, today announced Dr. Charles Gay and Dr. Thomas Grandke joined the Company as advisors. Dr. Gay, a recognized leader in the solar power industry, and Dr. Grandke, a top materials scientist with Siemens AG, will offer strategic guidance about Konarka’s product development, research efforts and key markets to the senior management team.

“As Konarka’s chairman, one of my most crucial responsibilities is to ensure we execute on our vision for low cost, universally available renewable energy,” said Howard Berke, chairman and chief executive officer, Konarka. “Bringing in the right people is the best way I know how to guarantee success. Charlie and Thomas are two of the most respected visionaries in their fields, and their knowledge and insight will only help us as we use our power plastics to open up markets and applications that traditionally have been closed to photovoltaics.”

Dr. Gay has been an advocate for solar energy for almost 30 years and is skilled in solar cell manufacturing and commercialization and international business. Currently, he is chairman of the Advisory Board at SunPower, which designs and manufactures high-performance silicon solar cells, and is directly involved in the Company’s sales and marketing efforts. He is also a co-founder and director with Greenstar, a company that develops multi-function solar-powered community centers in small villages in the developing world. During his career, Dr. Gay served as the director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, president and chief executive officer of both Siemens Solar Industries and ASE Americas and president of ARCO Solar.

Dr. Grandke joins Konarka’s Scientific Advisory Council as a result of the Company’s acquisition of Siemens’ organic photovoltaic research activities during the summer of 2004. A long-time leader of research and engineering efforts at Siemens, Dr. Grandke is currently the head of Siemens Corporate Technology’s Materials and Microsystems division, where he guides work with nanotechnology and electrically conductive polymers, among other technologies. He also served as president and chief executive officer of Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton, N.J., and held key positions in the Medical Engineering Group’s Magnetic Resonance division.
