Konarka Opens on July 16, 2001

LOWELL, Mass. — July 16, 2001 — With the cracking of a coconut for good luck and a scent of mango juice in the air, Konarka Technologies, Inc. opened its doors for business on July 16. With the intention of being the world leader in low-cost, flexible photovoltaics, Konarka will develop an innovative method for producing solar cells.

According to Konarka President and COO, Paul Wormser, "Our launch today begins the fulfillment of the late Dr. Sukant K. Tripathy's dream - to bring energy to people and places that might otherwise never see it. He understood the impact of a single light bulb in the homes of those who have never had electric power.
