Konarka Technologies Strengthens European Market Position, Appoints World-Renowned Scientific and Business Leaders to Board of Advisors

Lowell, MA January 19, 2004 Konarka Technologies, Inc. announced it has expanded its base of operational and scientific expertise by appointing two major industry figures to its Board of Advisors. Dr. Donald Fitzmaurice and Justin Adams have been named to Konarka’s Board of Advisors to guide Konarka’s scientific and business development respectively. The new additions follow Konarka’s previous announcement that it hired industry veteran Daniel Patrick McGahn as EVP and Chief Marketing Officer to lead Konarka with product development, revenue production and global market expansion. Konarka is the leading developer of polymer photovoltaic products that provide a source of renewable power in a variety of form factors. Konarka’s photovoltaic nanotechnology is focused on delivering lightweight, flexible, scalable and manufacturable products.

"Donald and Justin are key representatives who will provide a wealth of strategic insight to guide and accelerate Konarka’s commercialization of products and growth into the European market," said Howard Berke, Chairman, Konarka Technologies, Inc. "Both Advisory Board members have a solid understanding of the issues that need to be addressed in the markets we will enter, as well as the challenges emerging companies face in commercializing new technologies. Their knowledge will ultimately help transition our firm into a global manufacturer and provider of products especially in Europe," Berke added.

"Donald is a recognized visionary with impressive technical credentials," said Dr. Bill Beckenbaugh, Konarka’s President and Chief Executive Officer. "His work developing and commercializing nanomaterial-based products is directly applicable to the technical and product development underway at Konarka. We look forward to working closely with him as Konarka further develops and implements its vision of building revolutionary products that convert light to energy."

"Justin has proven experience directing and growing renewable energy and nanotechnology businesses and we welcome him to our Board of Advisors," said Daniel McGahn. "Justin’s expertise will be valuable as Konarka expands its business relationships in Europe and takes its products to the world market." Some of the markets Konarka will enter include on-board power for portable electronics, off-grid habitation construction and government applications.
