Konarka’s Founder and Chairman Honored With Mass High Tech’s 10th Annual All-Star Award

Lowell, Mass. – October 19, 2005 – Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in developing and commercializing Power Plastic™ that converts light to energy, today announced Mass High Tech, the journal of New England technology, named the Company’s co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer, Howard Berke, to its list of 2005 All-Stars. Now in its tenth year, the annual Mass High Tech All-Stars awards program recognizes the leaders in New England’s innovation economy.

Berke was one of more than 200 people nominated for consideration and selected as the top candidate in the energy sector. Berke leads Konarka’s efforts to make low-cost, universally available sources of renewable energy a reality. He provides the strategic vision for the Company’s light-activated Power Plastic, which is flexible, lightweight, lower in cost and more versatile in application than traditional solar energy technologies. It enables devices, systems and structures to have their own integrated sources of renewable power, combining energy generation and power consumption within in the same device.

“This year’s All-Stars show once again that Massachusetts and the surrounding region is home to not only the nation’s, but also the world’s, brightest minds in technology and innovation today,” said Douglas Banks, editor of Mass High Tech. “This year’s pool of nominations was one of the strongest in the history of the project.”

Berke thanked Mass High Tech’s program committee saying, “It is honor to be recognized by Mass High Tech. I truly appreciate the support and validation of Konarka’s efforts to bring to market a viable technology that delivers on the promise of alternative energies.”

An awards celebration and networking reception will be held on October 19, 2005 at The Westin Copley Place, Boston, Mass. Additional event information can be found online at https://www.masshightech.com/allstarsreg.asp

In addition, the honorees will be profiled in a special supplement in the October 24, 2005 edition of Mass High Tech.

“Collectively, our honorees are a prime example of the vibrancy of New England’s knowledge economy,” said Michael Olivieri, publisher of Mass High Tech. “The All-Star awards are Mass High Tech’s way of honoring that.”
